Storm

It was Monday morning and I had just dropped Declan off at work. He had said I didn’t need to change my hours, but I wanted to be close by at all times. We’d spent the previous day gathering his things from his apartment. I told him to bring all his clothes and anything important with him. I didn’t want anything to happen to his apartment and him lose something irreplaceable.

I’d known the omega for such a short time but living with him the past couple days had opened a new world to me. Washing dishes together or folding laundry had never felt so wonderful. Anything we did together seemed romantic. Even grocery shopping had taken on a new level of fun. I enjoyed seeing the things he picked out and made a mental note of his favorites.

When I dropped him off at work, we shared a quick kiss that was one of the most romantic kisses in the world. I shook my head as I sat down at my office desk. These thoughts were so foreign to me. I wasn’t used to having romantic feelings. Lust I understood perfectly. I knew quite well what it felt to want to fuck someone. This? This was a whole new ballgame.

I looked over my files and made a few calls. I didn’t have a lot on my plate right now. I had the privilege of only taking the assignments I wanted. And, right now, I didn’t want a lot holding me down.

Once the calls were made, I picked up my smartphone and sent a message to Blaze and Frost, asking them to meet me at the lair that afternoon. I didn’t like the idea of being away from Declan for any length of time, but I told him I would be out of the office for a couple hours. I told him to call immediately if something seemed off.

When I arrived at the lair, I was happy to see that Frost and Blaze were already there. I grabbed a slice of pizza that one of them had brought and a water from the fridge before sitting down with my brothers.

“So, what’s going on?” Blaze asked in between bites.

“We need to find out what The Manipulator’s deal is. Why did he cause the fire? What purpose did it serve?” I took a drink of water and then set it on the table. “No one was hurt. Not even the building was really damaged. I just don’t get it.”

Frost looked at me thoughtfully. “Well, let’s think about The Manipulator for a second. He has the ability to affect people’s choices, which can cause a chain of events that lead to an outcome in his favor. What did he have to gain from the fire? What happened during and after?”

“Well, Delcan discovered that John was The Manipulator and I was Detective Lightning.”

Blaze nodded. “That’s it, man. He wanted Declan to discover your identity.”

“But why would he want Declan to know that he was The Manipulator?” That didn’t make sense to me.
